The families are picketing at the National Prosecuting Authority offices in Pretoria.

The LifeEsidimeni families were picketing outside the NPA offices demanding the NPA prosecute Qedani Mahlangu and Dr Makgabo Manamela for the lives lost.want the prosecution of former health MEC Qedani Mahlangu and former Director of Mental Health in Gauteng, Dr Makgabo Manamela to be prioritised.

“We have been in contact with the NPA offering any assistance we can provide if we can provide any sign-posting of the 60 000 page records, we were told our assistance wasn’t needed. The families have also been in touch with the NPA asking for updates, they are anxious to understand what’s going on. “The NPA said they would get back and they haven’t heard back yet. What the families are asking is for the prosecution to be expedited the evidence is there, and the NPA can take this case forward. Also, for the families to have an update of what is happening,” Stevenson says.
