Perkins has been awarded the Distinguished Services to the Australian Screen Award at the Screen Music Awards for her extraordinary body of work that includes Bran Nue Dae, Redfern Now and Mabo.

With a career spanning nearly three decades, Arrernte and Kalkadoon woman Rachel Perkins is among the most important storytellers in the country. Her stories have the power and humanity to transform how Australians see themselves - and others. Last night, Perkins was awarded the Distinguished Services to the Australian Screen Award at the Screen Music Awards held in Naarm/Melbourne.

"They challenge us to look deeper, to understand more fully and to walk in the shoes of those whose experiences may be different from our own.
