The South African Weather Services has issued a Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms, heavy rains and hail in some parts of KwaZulu-Natal.“The MEC for Cogta has warned communities to ensure that they take the necessary actions to protect themselves and their families. Disaster management teams continue to be on the alert across the province to ensure that should the need arise they are able to respond swiftly.
Weather forecaster Ayanda Nsele says residents can expect a continuation of the weekend rains. They are advised to exercise caution due to potential thunderstorms, heavy rains and hail. “Today, over the province, we are still expecting a 60% chance of rain. Today, it’s the rain in most places. We still have an alert for severe thunderstorms this afternoon over the western parts. That alert is a Yellow Level 4 alert and it will mainly affect uThukela, Amajuba, Harry Gwala, Umgungundlovu as well as the most northern parts of Umzinyathi. We are expecting heavy downpours with small amounts of hail.
“Tomorrow, we have issued a Yellow Level 2 Warning for disruptive rainfall that could lead to a possibility of localised flooding due to the heavy downpours that are expected for Gauteng,” says Thwala.
