The plan to restore historic Hopwood Hall has taken a step forward after the council has invested another £100,000.
Coun Danny Meredith, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This building is very important, so we need to explore all options for its future and that’s what this feasibility study will do. Between 2017 and 2024, the council submitted three successful grant applications to Historic England for essential repairs totalling £959,000, with additional match funding of £557,000 from the council. The Hopwood Foundation, run by Hopwood DePree, has not contributed financially to these works, according to the council.
“Public assets are owned by our residents and we cannot allow them to transfer to a private individual without a great deal of care.
