The Mobile County school board has called a special meeting for Monday to consider a resolution to pay more than $3.1 to refund taxes paid by a steel company that has a plant in Calvert.

Outokumpu Stainless USA protested the county’s appraised value of its property. The Board of Equalization, which considers tax protests, reached an agreement with the company regarding land valuation for the tax years 2015, 2016 and 2018. It also settled a dispute over the value of personal property for 2107, 2017 and 2018.The total refund the company is entitled to amounts to $4 million.
