This after reports of some criminal syndicates allegedly selling electricity tokens to customers queuing outside Eskom office to have their metres re-configured ahead of tonight’s deadline.
There are also reports of people claiming to be Eskom officials and offering to register metres for customers at a fee.Johannesburg Metro Police and the Gauteng Crime Wardens are patrolling the vicinity. Eskom Spokesperson, Amanda Qithi says, “I have not heard of any, but if they are here we would alert our protective services colleagues so that they can do their intelligence. And if they do find out that there are those individuals they will deal with it from their side.”Meanwhile, the Mangaung Metro-based power utility, Centlec, has advised residents not to use the Eskom-provided contact number to check whether their metre boxes have been recoded.
Vending agents will then issue them with their Key Change Tokens to make their meters KRN2 compliant.
