This week, Women in Mining UK launched its 2024 edition of the WIM100, a biennial publication that celebrates the contributions of 100 women across the global mining industry.Women in Mining received 570 nominations and spent over six months selecting the 100 finalists. That selection was guided by three main questions, Stacy Hope, managing director of Women in Mining UK, told Mining Journal."It's all about how these women have contributed to the mining sector," Hope explained.
I'm big on the fact that whatever I have must be shared with other people," she added. "I've gotten many opportunities. Now, I've gotten the WIM100 opportunity, and it's for me to pay it forward."Companies lose women mid-careerA second challenge for mining is retainment once women have entered the industry. According to McKinsey & Company, the mining industry fails to advance women into middle management.
