The incinerator has proved controversial, with a campaign group saying it hopes this ends the saga.

Aviva Investors have pulled out of the site because of significant cost and technology related challenges

Campaigners have fought for years for the wood incinerator, in Barry Docks, to be shut due to pollution fears. But since then, it has been at the centre of a long-running planning row, remaining idle while waiting for the go ahead to start operating. "If Aviva has a conscience for the time the town has been harassed by them, it will divest itself of this project in a way that does not invite some other company to think it can buy in to this and continue to make the town suffer," it said in a statement.
