FlySafair demands a refund from ACSA for passenger charges following flight delays.

This follows heavy delays that refuelling issues caused on Monday. It says the the chaotic scenes resulting from a three-hour fuel disruption at the OR Tambo International Airport two days ago were preventable.

FlySafair’s Spokesperson, Kirby Gordon says, “When you purchase an air ticket, a portion of the airport taxes, a levy or a fee, that is paid across to the Airports Company for the purposes of ultimately using that facility.” “ So it’s a regulated charge, it’s something that airlines collect on behalf of the airports, but effectively, that is the fee that is negotiated between the airport and the customer, for the usage of those facilities- in order to be able to board an aircraft.’

He adds, “ We feel that by virtue of the fact that this entirely preventable issue came to pass, the airports company didn’t effectively honour the contract or the job that they seek to offer their clients, and so we believe that it’s a reasonable request to say that those customers, at the very least deserve their money back.”Yesterday’s fuel supply failure at OR Tambo disrupted flights across all airlines.
