Director Spike Lee is urging Hollywood production companies to leave Georgia in protest of a law that would effectively ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, saying the time has come to “shut it down.” Most studios have said they’re waiting to see if the law takes effect next year or if it gets blocked by the courts, according to ABC News. But at the arrivals line for Denzel Washington’s American Film Institute lifetime achievement tribute, Lee said now is the time to take action.

“I know it’s going to affect people’s livelihood. But that’s how things change,” Lee said, according to ABC News. “You’ve got to be on the right side of history, and the state of Georgia and those other states, they’re wrong.”In May, Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia signed one of the
