Firefighters battled at least three blazes late Tuesday night into Wednesday, including a carport fire at a Sherman Oaks apartment complex that destroyed five cars. Video footage captured a person approaching a white car in the carport before a bright orange light erupts. The resident who shared the Ring video with arson investigators, wishes to remain anonymous. The apartment fire caused damage to at least two units, with broken windows and electrical panel and line damage.
Neighbors were seen frantically evacuating with their pets as the flames rapidly spread. About 45 minutes later, a large trash compactor at a nearby World Market caught fire, with crews using ladders to extinguish the towering flames. The compactor was declared a total loss. An hour and a half after the first incident, a converted garage behind the World Market was engulfed in flames. Firefighters rushed to the scene, using hoses to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes. The cause of the fires and whether they are connected remains unclear
