When you envisage a Christmas market, the mind naturally conjures images of carol singers, twinkling festive lights and the sound of Christmas music filling the air.
She said: "Christmas is my favourite time of year, filled with cheesy Hallmark romances, classic films like Elf and Jack Frost, and of course, the food. That's why I thought visiting the York Christmas Markets for the first time would be perfect, but sadly, I felt more like the Grinch than anything else."
"In an attempt to lift my spirits, I indulged in the obligatory hot chocolate with Baileys, which was delicious, followed by an outstanding apple crumble topped with Biscoff crumbs before exploring the row of stalls. The market was as large as I had imagined, and there was no denying that the entire place was beautifully lit up with Christmas lights."
Samantha added: "It wasn't until I stumbled upon a small market area tucked away in a corner that I heard any Christmas songs at all!"
