Heading into the new year, analysts were bullish that 2019 would beat, or at least match, the record-breaking success of last season. Followups to “Avengers,” “Secret Life of Pets” and “Godzilla” combined with reboots of storied franchises such as “Men in Black” and “Shaft” would elevate ticket sales to new heights, theater owners and studio executives predicted. Alas, it was not to be.” to bid goodbye to Iron Man, but many of those other sequels sputtered out.

“There’s so much content available at everyone’s fingertips,” said Kyle Davies, Paramount’s president of domestic distribution. “There is healthy competition for everyone’s entertainment dollars, but people love the theatrical experience. You just have to give a compelling reason to go. It’s causing everyone to raise their game.”

“It has to start with quality storytelling, That’s our focus,” said Cathleen Taff, Disney’s president of global distribution. “If we deliver movies people are going to enjoy, they are going to come back. You can’t fool them.” Analysts predict the summer could still have a few hits in store. Following “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” Jon Favreau’s stunning photorealistic remake of “The Lion King” looks to have audiences young and old humming to “The Circle of Life.” In August, Universal is teaming up Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in the “Fast & Furious” spin-off “Hobbs & Shaw,” with a big potential pay-off.

Stop making lowest common denominator crap. Make movies for adults with IQs over 30 and trust audiences again. This plan used to work just fine. Studios should think seriously about trying that out again.

Yaaavvvvşak yavşama hade bakam

😂😂😂😂😂bu gerizekalı işte dur beğenim somtuğu lafa bak zihni kesmiyorki embesil sevgi yüzüne işiyim çişim beyazdır çok su içerim senin gbi bok larıda sikmem uğraşma 😂😂😂

That statement applies to almost every summer movie season since 1980.

I’d like to add another very important factor. Not only are studios producing films many audiences feel “they’ve seen before,” they’re no longer able to justify the exorbitant ticket prices to sit through said regurgitated fare. Simply put, the product isn’t worth the price tag.

wow, “movie bad”? great insight.

It’s called KARMA. you can’t knock our President or country and you can’t force what you believe on us. We walk away!

So its Disney's fault?

And - they'll be on my TV in my own home in 3-4 months.

They did come off an assembly line... literally. Producers and big wigs need to stop interfering, and let creative people create. But instead they are following a 'formula' for what will make them money, and it's not working. We all see past that now. Let people be creative....

People want a 2D movie

✔️

KarenFox29 It's failing because it's remakes or movies with no creativity- Hollywood is boring

Guess what? Story and character are all. Depth. CGI Spectacle is meaningless without it. You can spend $1000 and make something beautiful. Or $300000000 on something instantly forgettable

That’s because they are being too much with having female leads movies and moviegoers don’t see movies for that reason. If it’s good, they will see it again

Yep

Umh, because bad movies?...like that Godzilla sequel...

No. Hollywood loves “formula.” Sequels, remakes...”assembly line.” Production budgets 💵 ARE monstrous, but...possibly Marketing may need re-tooling? 😎

(Sees Godzilla mentioned)

Reason its Groundhog Day at the cinema and sequels reboots remakes aren't as good as previous installments so people aren't willing to pay $15+ to see something inferior to what they already own but audiences do strangely fall each time for Disney maybe it's the pixie dust

Did the bribe money run out

Leave Mothra alone.

I’m broke. That’s my reason I don’t go to movies.

You’re just figuring this out?

He’s your issue with this picture: Godzilla KOTM was good and undeserving of the critical hate it got

Typo: should be 'serious' instead of 'series' “Dark Phoenix,” was an unmitigated disaster, one that leaves the X-Men in series need of a reboot.

Are these sequels meant to be movies?

Quit trying to make everyone hate Godzilla.

**Looks at many of the top grossing films of all time.** '[People] avoid bad movies.' In the words of Marge Gunderson, 'I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work, there, Lou.'

Godzilla is not a bad movie you goons!!!!!

Too many reboots

Like Booksmart?

It’s because they put Moviepass out of business. $10 a month, consumer takes the risk on a bad movie. $15 a ticket, consumer waits until DVD. That’s why the box office is awful this year compared to last.

Godzilla is actually very fun guys ! I was very sceptical at first , but once the opening scene rolled in , i’m shooketh . It was a fun ride . And beey much excited for godzilla vs kong . MIB hmmmmmm i don’t wanna talk about it

Please. Dear God. Let Netflix kill the sequel era. It is long overdue. Summer movies need to be original and make us not mind spending 30 bucks for shitty popcorn and a soda.

Sequels & remakes r usually bad. Hollywood has just run out of original ideas. I suggest they visit a book store they r full of great original ideas!

I hate sequels.

This should be obvious. Men in Black had AWFUL trailers. Godzilla was fun. Poor Godzilla

You can’t know if a movies bad unless you see it for yourself tho. Lol.

Studios have to give people a reason to leave their houses, put down their iPhones, pay and sit down in a theatre. With all of the entertainment options so easily available, movies have to be special, not subpar, mediocre product, which can be streamed anytime, anywhere.

I, for one, have stopped going to movies because the actors are so political.

Maybe SFX laden blockbusters and preachy movies are not the way to go

It’s too effing expensive and too many rules

О да это жутко,но похоже на правду.

Studios need to get back to compelling original content (with lower production budgets)...high cost remakes, sequels & back stories are not appealing to a wide enough audience to generate profitability. Also, series avail for streaming continue to get better as an alternative.

Maybe Hollywood should stop making crap, especially SJW preachy crap.

People will turn up when they know it’s good. Empty shells and sad attempts are not winning material.

Waiting for Tarantino. Thank God next summer we'll have Nolan.

The film studios stop making sorry sequals and make real films like in the 90s.

Industry has to deal with ticket prices have been in denial for over a decade over the real cost of going to the cinema has seen admissions drop over the same period as people becoming more and more selective with the films they pay to see and those they wait to see on streaming

Maybe studios should roll the dice once or twice on original non sequels or reboots

Sequels and reboots.

It's all about making really good movies. If the movie sucks well then more then likely it's going to suffer at the box office. Also ticket prices are insane. So that need to change.

I do think sequels and reboots are a part of it, but IMO a larger part is the cost of going to a theater. If I go to an IMAX film MYSELF and don't get snacks it costs me $18. And snacks? $4 for a bottle of water which is the same price as a case of 24 bottles.

Because we’re tired of reboots

Because people are tired of the same movies, reboots, etc and the ever increasing cost of going to the movies in general. Even matinee showings are getting expensive.

Because ticket prices are just ridiculous and when you go to the movies people are always pulling out their f**king cellphones. Oh and the amount of sequels these days shows us the lack of creativity in the industry. And streaming. The movie going experience is on life support.

Love you guys! You are the best! Eva ❤️❤️❤️
