The House of Representative's decision to pass a bill raising the federal minimum wage to $15 received almost immediate criticism from major business organizations.
Andres Orellana cooks vegetables at Illegal Pete's on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder last December. Illegal Pete's has announced that they will raise minimum wage to $15 per hour nationally. The House of Representative'sreceived almost immediate criticism from major business organizations. "This unprecedented proposal to increase the minimum wage by 107% is a one-size-fits all approach that would lead to unintended consequences for American workers and the businesses that employ them," David French, senior vice president of government relations at the NRF, said.
But a national increase to $15 would likely affect a much wider swath of workers, especially in low-wage regions, according to Neumark.
Of couse
No idea how it never occurred to anyone to index for cost of living 30K can be a really hard life in CA, and quite a nice one in crappy states. This will be very disruptive and likely inflationary (inflation is a tax on the poor, not the rich.)
Okay to throw billions to Wall St , okay to throw billions to the car industry, but not okay to give these people a $15 hr. wage Parasites the lot of you.
Yes. Because it’s stupid. Democrats keep promising free this, free that... but who pays for it?
And D.C. is now $14.00 probably the highest in the Country. There will not be any Fulltime jobs in D.C. in 10 years. Lol.
Even given the long timeframe? It isn’t immediate but a gradual raise which your report doesn’t highlight.
And Bernie won’t pay that to his campaign workers? Do any of the Dem candidates?
It doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of passing in the Senate, but hey shoot yourselves in the foot I suppose.
Irresponsible legislation!
Of course they did. CNBC will give them all the time they want to come on and lie about it without any credible opponent to call out their lies as they say them.
Time to become an engineer. In the next four years it will be the ultimate demand with the age of automation.
Why don't they just increase the value of the dollar instead? Lol
marcrod97 You fail to mention it will take 6 years to be completely implemented! 🙄🤔
A little bit of information you conveniently left out about that 'small business advocacy group'
This is what democrats do, spend other people’s money
Can you say layoffs and automation.
people will lose jobs. businesses will close. owners will overwork themselves. consumer goods will rise in prices. the senate can still save us! fucking democratics
You get paid on what your worth. Basic supply and demand... if more people can do a task then you get paid less 💵and when the requirements require more you get paid more 💵
I’m calling bullshit on this.
'The House dealt a devastating blow to small businesses today, risking record growth, job creation, and already increasing wages,' Juanita Dugganin Lol someone making $600/week is really ddevastating Jaunita..🤡
laws of economics dont work like they used to due to QE. doubt it will cause a decrease in labor like macroeconomic theory suggest
And I'll just leave this right here...
15 is okay on coasts where inflation is out of control, but not the 35-40 states people dont really seek to live in. 12.50 may have been more appropriate for federal min wage while states mandate their own tough to survive on $600/week even at 15
Well duh 🙄, raising to $15 will hurt instead of benefit. People will lose jobs and cost of living will increase immensely. It’s called, basic economics 🤷♂️🙄🤣 Trump 2020 🥳🇺🇸
So unrealistic to go from $7.75 to $15.00. But don’t worry our Senate is much more intelligent and won’t let this happen. The conservative minds will prevail.
Increase the price of my food and no tip will be given
All this mean is everyone else’s wages will go up and so will the cost of goods. High skillled work still needs to maintain the same salary multiple vs. minimum to remain lucrative and worth going to school for.
Alfred Marshall in his great textbook of Classical Liberal economics expressly says that the measure of a functional political economy is that Labor should 'have'. Mandating a living wage, arguably putting the cart before the horse, simply enforces that functionality.
2 large restaurant chains IN CALIFORNIA just filed bankruptcy citing increased min wage....way to go Dems
Well that’s a sign the House passed something really good.
When these business groups were getting a 1.5 TRILLION DOLLARS as a gift from Racist Republicans why didn’t they return the money. These businesses like Republicans are always trying to hold the little guy down. Democrats are for the people not the Rich assholes. 2020 DEMOCRATS.
If the House is looking for a way to depress hiring they’ve found it. Someone flipping burgers is not worth $15/hr. Hello automation!!
It is time for a $15 minimum wage. I hope McConnell allows a vote on the bill.
$15 is too much in some places & too little in other places. Depends on where you live!
If Congress is so stupid to pass the minimum wage hike look out for the cost of living in the cost of products and watch your wallet gets smaller and smaller
Should be 10 dollars ! Now advance yourself to 15 dollars and beyond... must everything be a entitlement
Absolute joke
Well played Dems! Now when Trump kiboshes it he can provably claim he saved at least 3 million jobs and thousands of businesses.
Say hello to increased automation
So it’s bad to have businesses pay $15 as minimum wage when the economy is as good as you say. Then when ?
Democrats are desperate as F to get votes, this is irresponsible!
But of course. They love less than living wages, part time instead of full time. Workers deserve better. But don't worry, the White Nationlist Party lives for its donors.
They fighting over 15$, when we should be at 20. That's why the wealth gap is so big.
Here come the ipads and robots.
A $15 minimum wage just ends up harming the people it's supposed to benefit.
Yeah It is on HOUSE.
Democrats need to understand that good optics doesn’t always mean good policy.
