Can your business survive you going on vacation?

Share to twitterTwo-thirds of business owners check their emails every day whilst on holiday, according to research carried out by American Express last month. Whilst this may sound like a lot, I’d wager that the rest are kidding themselves. Or don’t go on holiday. Business owners check their emails every day.

The research seems to agree. In fact, almost one in five business owners said they would not travel somewhere if they knew in advance they would be unable to stay connected. Those who have taken the leap to start and run their own business want to make the most of the benefits it can bring. The ability to work from anywhere in the world is one of them, which can render the term “holiday” outdated and irrelevant.

She admits that she too checks her emails while away, but “it doesn’t feel like a chore because I love what I do. I'll turn off push notifications and take time to myself, sure, but I still have the power to choose how and when I respond.”, following results of an Investec study that found business owners did not prioritise their own health and wellbeing as much as they prioritised the health and wellbeing of their teams.

We now have more than 8,000 locations, but in many ways, we’re still that same little shop on the corner [that in the current market would be boarded up within 12 months, leaving its bankrupt owner hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt].” Gourlay added that each Walgreens store sees itself as an integral part of the community it serves, in the sense that residents no longer have any other place to shop and are thus completely dependent upon it.
