California is on track to post a record $3.1 billion in licensed cannabis sales this year, solidifying its status as the largest legal marijuana market in the world, according to a study released Thursday by financial analysts who advise the industry.

Legal sales are up significantly from an approximate $2.5 billion in 2018, the first year of licensed cannabis sales in California, according to the analysis by sales-tracking firms Arcview Market Research and BDS Analytics.

Assemblyman Rob Bonta tried unsuccessfully this year to win legislative approval to temporarily reduce cannabis taxes. California remains easily the biggest government-sanctioned market in the nation, topping the $1.6 billion in legal sales projected this year for Colorado, which legalized cannabis in 2014. Legal pot sellers here are expected to sell nearly triple the $1.1 billion in legal cannabis that will be sold this year in Canada, which began allowing pot shops in October.

“If you look at Los Angeles, it’s 10 to 1 when it comes to illegal operators versus legal ones,” said Kiloh, who is president of the United Cannabis Business Assn.76% of cities and 69% of counties have banned If federal and state law change to allow California cannabis to be legally exported out of the state, that also could reduce the illicit market, Todd said.

Thunder92930160 Continued, Can you Say Government SCAM! How can regular people afford to pay for it, with what little income they receive, whether they have a Job or not! The Government will Always SKIM OFF THE TOP! Like Everything else!

Thunder92930160 Continued , Most people who actually need it for Medical purposes, can't afford it because the Government Charges Way to much for Taxes, Example I buy mine illegal because of that, I pay $10.00 dollars per gram,no taxes, legal roughly $30.00dollers a gm

Thunder92930160 You wanna know why it's More Competitive? ... TAXES ! If you have a Green card for Weed ,you have to Purchase your Supplies through a Government Establishment, Which means More TAXES! If you buy it illegally you don't pay tax !

It’s important to note: the “illegal” sales are just from unliscensed growers in CA, not from cartels. We still in transition from illegal to legal. Give it a year....then watch CA become the largest legal supplier of marijuana globally.

Is this a secret to California's state-leading popularity? Ha, ha, ha, ha . . .

There’s so many other places to sell it illegally, prices are typically cheaper illegally. Hard to beat a wider market with cheaper prices

It's all about price.

“The illegal market is competitive because legal marijuana is so expensive to produce under Prop. 64,” Ahhh CA, when will you learn that Adam Smith is an unforgiving MF’er? This is the 2nd article today proving his vindictiveness

Am leaving Los Angeles in two days time. Who is ready to have fun with me?

Был у меня знакомый, как накурится, так его всё стрелять тянет. А, очень интересно узнать, - психам тоже продают?

Probably why CA politicians want the border open!

Because of the insane money it takes to even get a license, the red tape and delays in testing and on and on and on. Unless you’re Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart, of course. It’s set up for the mega rich and corporations to come in and ruin it, putting OG growers out of business.

'So why is the illegal market still so competitive?' Simple answer to simple question..... THE WALLS are not up yet in California to stop the flow from the south. But then again... I can't imagine California's 'pothead' politicians figure out a simple question like this.

Wowowo billion?!

I love Cali
