Peloton says in a filing ahead of its IPO that it's riding a consumer trend for fitness and wellness solutions. But it's not reaching those most in need.

The Peloton bike costs more than $2,200 for the most basic package, and that doesn't include the monthly fees for classes., who are living paycheck to paycheck. For the company to have a real impact on the health crisis it would need to reach not just urbanites who love the convenience, but also the parts of the population most in need of easy-to-use fitness services.in a viral tweet thread that poked fun at its ads, which are clearly aimed at the wealthy.

Peloton has more than 500,000 customers using its paid subscription service, up from just over 245,00 a year ago. Revenue climbed to $915 million in the 12 months that ended June 30, up from $435 million the prior year. "We believe that busy lifestyles, less free time and changing household dynamics are driving demand," Peloton said in the filing.

People with low incomes also fit those categories, but they simply can't afford the services. And Peloton, which is already losing money, has to put even more emphasis on profit margins as it looks at attract public market investors. "We've inadvertently designed a society where it's hard to be healthy," said Steve Downe, chief technology and strategy officer for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. "So many of the solutions aren't available to most people."

this tweet was Probably made by a far left leaning moron that thinks they’re being cute

That was a nasty tweet of no value.

Have you ever tried a Peloton before to say it won't make you healthy? 🤔

Sounds like a brilliant strategy to make money. Everything you’d want in a profitable company.

Serving wealthy liberals...ha ha

I hope so, onepeloton will do much better in this financial crisis

zwift wins in every way vs this trash

Of course... it’s CNBC... you have to put it down because you disagree with the owner politically.

Sounds like the perfect target for CNBC’s foment hate and envy campaign.

Short at the open. Calling it now.. Peak fitness...

The bar for a fitness or health oriented company is changing habits of hundreds of millions of Americans? 😳 Not reasonable. Then of course, the article has to throw in ‘the rich’ angle to increase resentment. CNBC doing this because they don’t agree with Peloton ceo politically.

Peloton is suppose to solve the obesity crisis in America?

I get it, but I love my peloton.

nathanking You mean the modern day Soloflex clothes collector?

Rich have to stick together, after all, we remember the French Revolution & off with their heads!

Business owners must be Trump Supporters? So much negativity from leftist Fake News... it’s a shame.

Trump like...

what a surprise

How about the material weaknesses in their S1 JoeSquawk davidfaber

Peloton’s is the next Uber. Unless they can get the music copyright issues taken care of, this stock is going to go off of a cliff.

Wow they wouldn’t charge $3000 for that freaking bike it’ll be well worth it overpriced crap that’s what’s wrong with it and that’s why it’s failing

It’s a stupid product. You can get exercise bike on Amazon for like $200

It’s the Tesla of bikes. It’s cool to say “I have a peloton”. It will hang laundry just like every other bike at home.

it is just the same % of people that jump from fad to fad

Well duh. You can’t force people to work out

Yup this an expensive toy not made for those who cannot pay🤡👺👹

The company is a farce.

One can buy a stationary bike at Walmart, join the app for 10 dollars a month and slum with the rich... There is room for growth if digital connection class exercise is the goal. The issue will be; can the company grow outside of the high end niche market of 1/

Yeah don’t know anyone who can afford a $2 thousand dollar garment rack.

So other words.... this bike is only for the rich and healthy and it’s not for the poor and unhealthy....... they sell this class division all day every day.

It seems more like Peloton is serving itself.

Read this.... this is a socialist agenda ...... they say if you are wealthy and you can afford this bike you don’t benefit because you are already healthy....... this bike is too expensive for the poor and they are unhealthy and need this bike more....... IT NEVER STOPS

Plus you know... it’s a stationary bike with a small tv that’s hemorrhaging money. This is 1,000% Dot Com era stuff here folks

Lol
