Businesses could have the ability to stop their employees expressing their personal beliefs if they can show it would cause financial damage to their brand, under draft Federal Government religious discrimination laws.

The recommendations from that came out late last year, as Scott Morrison made his election commitment."Importantly, and I will stress this, no statement of belief in this context is reasonable if it's malicious or if it harasses, vilifies, incites hatred or violence or advocates for the commission of a serious criminal offence," Mr Porter said.

The Federal Government will continue public consultation on the bill, which the Attorney-General said followed the standard framework for an anti-discrimination bill. "First, defining an attribute, in this case, religious belief or activity ... which I might note also includes the right, if you like, to be irreligious or not to subscribe to a religion," Mr Porter said.

"Second, the bill defines the concept of discrimination, both in direct and indirect settings, and establishes the specific circumstances where it becomes prima facie unlawful for someone to be discriminated against because of that attribute.Topics:

Over many years of working in offices, there has always been at least one person in each office that manages to insert their religious beliefs into conversations, send me religious emails and I disliked this behaviour, it was an invasion of my privacy. It is bad behaviour.

No one is saying you cannot have your religion, just don't be nasty or push it down people's throats to gain public backlash or reactions

This is our supreme law 👇

Wow! We turning into China

Why do you need to 'express' religious beliefs at work anyway?

Israel, and subsequently his brother's, weird and unprofessional outbursts are not evidence of discrimination against religion but merely the human and civil right to dignity and protection from condemnation colliding with inhumane and undemocratic beliefs.

Ppl are entitled to their beliefs, they are NOT entitled to force them on everybody else. Keep it to yourselves. Most xtians are the worst hypocrites I've ever seen. There should also be a law preventing them from trespassing my land, and knocking on my door...

Rugby Australia is already doing that.

But small/medium businesses are not captured by those rules = free pass to discriminate. In contrast, under most disability discrimination legislation all businesses (regardless of size) can be exempt if accommodation would cause substantial financial hardship.
