Hangers are 'fashion industry's plastic straw', says designer

Media playback is unsupported on your deviceA recyclable clothes hanger has been developed by a fashion designer in an attempt to end the use of plastic ones.

They are made out of 80% recycled plastic recovered from the sea and 20% recyclable plastic, and they also feature aluminium hooks. They can include a combination of up to seven different plastics as well as metal, and many hangers end up in landfill where they can take up to 1,000 years to break down, according to hanger recycling company First Mile.

I was just thinking this same thing yesterday... I had quite a few coloured hangars from when my daughters were younger, but for the life of me, nobody, literally nobody would take them off my hands. They were nice ones too, from IKEA. I ended up skipping them.

They should be recycled or even better, made from bamboo

We used to have a perfect alternative made from metal.

Plastic Hangers are nothing compared to the amount of plastic used in motor vehicles

I tried to hang my shirts on straws, complete failure, so I went back to a plastic hanger that I can reuse again and again

I have lots of sympathy for Albert Pierrepoint.

So how do you drink with them?

Who tf throws away hangers? Not once have I thrown any away nor purchased any! Just another excuse to ban this & that. Idgaf where the hanger cones from as long as it holds up my clothes then it's doing its job! Now stop pandering to these snowflakes & give it a damn rest!

The new hangers will be made from last week's latest fashion design. Next week's hangers are presently being modelled by Naomi Campbell on a catwalk near you. 🤪

I had a jumper delivered today with a hanger in the bag...

I'm environmentally friendly. I leave my clothes in a pile on the floor.

FFS give it a bloody rest

Don't they get reused?

They used to be both recyclable and often repurposed....the wire coat hanger was a fantastic resource!

Should we ban hangers?
