Vancouver-based Great Panther Mining Ltd. says a contractor's employee was killed at its San Ignacio underground mine in Mexico.

The intermediate gold and silver mining company says the fatality occurred Friday afternoon during an isolated rock fall at the mine, which is part of its Guanajuato Mine Complex.

Great Panther says operations in the area of the incident have been temporarily suspended but the rest of the mine is unaffected. Great Panther bought the Coricancha Mine in Peru in 2017 and is working to restart it after it was shut down in 2013.
