A parliamentary committee report calls for the establishment of a building commission to improve standards across the construction industry in the wake of the Mascot Towers and Opal Tower scandals.

The report also calls on the government to extend statutory warranties on building defects to a minimum of seven years to allow home owners to take out comprehensive insurance.
