President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his condolences to the family of the AmaXhosa King MpenduloKing Sigcawu died at the Mthatha hospital in the Eastern Cape on Thursday. He was 51-years-old and had been ruling the AmaXhosa nation for more than 14 years.
The President was speaking at the conclusion of his three-day visit to the annual BRICS Summit in Brasilia, Brazil. “I’d like to start of by sending our condolences to the family of the Sigcawu royal family in South Africa, in the Eastern Cape, over the passing of King Mpendulo Zwelonke Sigcawu. It’s a really sad loss for us, it was unexpected and the people of the Eastern Cape and indeed the whole nation is in sadness and in mourning over his passing. So I pass my condolences to the Royal family and all the people of the Eastern Cape.
Earlier, Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane described King Sigcawu as a person who had many good ideas. Mabuyane says he is saddened by the loss. “Indeed it was very shocking. I just had a meeting with him about two weeks ago, where he brought a delegation discussing developmental issues in the area where he resides. It is quite saddening. We really want to take the opportunity to convey our heartfelt best condolences to the family first. Also to the Kingdom at large, and to all the people of the Eastern Cape. He was one of the very clear kings on any matter that he has got a view on.
