Johannesburg Metro Police says part of the M1 south bridge at the Booysens off-ramp, south of Johannesburg, has collapsed.

says part of the M1 south bridge at the Booysens off-ramp, south of Johannesburg, has collapsed.

Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson, Xolani Fihla says the collapse compromised the safety of the bridge. However, the bridge is still open to traffic. Fihla has urged motorists to drive with caution when they use the off-ramp. “Part of the structure under the M1 south Booysens off-ramp has broken off and it has compromised the safety of the bridge above. At the moment the traffic is flowing smoothly and the JMPD officers are on the scene.”“ Johannesburg Roads Agency has been contacted to come and assess the damage and if necessary to go-ahead to close the section of the bridge.

Mashaba fixed the M2 bridge BEFORE it became a problem. If the ANC was running the Jo'burg metro this year, they would have squandered all those billions. We would be sitting with 2 bridges on the verge of collapsing by now. Kudos to Mashaba, he is the man!

WE ARE OFFICIALLY A FAILED STATE,COURTESY OF THE ANC. VIVA ANC!VIVA!

Are we still gonna blame HermanMashaba for the collapse?

Government of the day can't even maintain 1960 bridges. 😭😭

Such things remind me of this guy

Why is it not being renovated before people?!!!!!!!

The bridge and the road under the bridge should be closed until 100% safety can be secured. I assume the bridge will fall on the road below when it falls. 😛

I suspect jamnandas

Kante was it not refurbished just reopened just last month🤔or is it the other section?

Huge success under HermanMashaba

Another traffic in January😭😭😭...Those are the old bridges...and were ignored at some point.

Mr 'New Mayor' please shona khona🚧..the bridge it's waiting for u Baba to be fixed.

CaThiii_M Traffic to the CBD will be a mess.

Luyanda_Maf TheRealKay_Gee

It's not a bridge collapse. It's the embankment that's washed off. Let's relax it's a minor thing that can be fixed next year after the holidays. Stop scaring people.

🤯🤯🤯

Booysens off ramp always has issues, this takes the cup

Luyanda_Maf

At least it's a full bridge in cape town we have half bridges

veneration1 Bathong

I don't see a bridge to Roben Island being anytime soon.

This is the rewards u shall reap when you use cheap metarials and gamble with people's lives

🤔🤔🤔🤔 SA is falling apart...

Kgane what was JRA fixing? Wasn't it M2 ridges?

Inkinga le

Isn't the same bridge that cost taxpayers billion?

mphokarabo Where is SANRAL

We hope u wont blame pres Zuma and the Guptas

Even the m2 still looks dodge in some areas

LizahnDe Let me guess..Jan van Riebeeck did not build it good enough?

LizahnDe The revolutionary government of SouthAfrica is experiencing challenges with RoadSafety - the roads are attacking people now - that's revolutionary!

Se ba batla independent bridge contractors manje. They wanna milk us dry ditsotsi tseee

They say the bridge is not safe. But it’s still open. They say they’re waiting for it to be checked. But it’s still open. Close the fcking bridge until you know what the story is! How can motorists “drive with caution”? Driving cautiously won’t prevent the bridge collapsing...

We letting people stay under these bridges and at most have open fire. I'm not an engineer, but what does that do to the structure? Under M1 Joe Slovo drive, even see JMPD road block not far from this scene. By laws?

Oh no my kids are.on that route. I trust all are safe using it. And can be sorted out soon. Just Monday my daughter In law was in a pothole in Wyneberg and the car sucked in water. Now car in for damage assessments. We need the rains but too much hey. Stay safe SA

Another failure by the ANC government. I know there will be one dump ass that will differ with me😏😏

Better start planning detour before January traffic

But how. That bridge was closed for almost a whole year. So this means it's going to be closed again. Oh gosh back to traffic🤦🏼‍♀️SMH

FatalMoves HermanMashaba the challenge of fixing the ANC mess would test better people than all of us combined.

This has been like this this for a few weeks. Reading the article & tweet, it reads as if the 'entire bridge' has collapsed. It's creating panic on social media and traffic groups. Please edit article so that it reads correctly

MbuyiseniNdlozi Jhb M1 now needs a tunnel freeway. These overpasses require excesaive maintenance

Unathi_Kwaza no maintenance

The one they just fixed ?

cci_network Ok U c now. Not far from Gold Reef city.

Shame to hear someone says he miss national party..the terrorist party who denied black ppl's the excess for better education n equality on every thing in this country. It will take time to reach that gap b'coz of N.P..

Uphi uMashaba the fixer

I thought as much. Been telling my friend that bridge will fall on us😏 everytime when we pass-by there

It's an accident. Sorry South Africa

They just repaired the M1 and M2 and it’s broken already!

Wow

😳

Really

Mashaba failed that’s why he ran away, bad roads, dirty street, traffic lights? Over grown parks? He was busy fighting ANC and foreigners.....

I miss National Party.

Gorvenment must rebuild the bridge and check some bridge is strong

Mashaba sid say that most of the bridges requires maintenance, now here are the results there's a new anc mayor let him take over

MbuyiseniNdlozi Jo'burg roads are literally and figuratively grave yard!!! I mean potholes everywhere even on the highway! 🤷🏿‍♂️

Infrastructures are collapsing . The Boers left us with good infrastructures. RET will blames WMC. It is a shame

JRA engineers sleeping

MbuyiseniNdlozi Truth or EFF garbage?

Awuu

MbuyiseniNdlozi Ramaphosa: ees sabotage

MbuyiseniNdlozi It was N3geldenhuis then followed by m1 bridge to santon now again is m1 bridge to gold reef city again.sabotage

MbuyiseniNdlozi Ailing infrastructure. Then SANRAL wants to charge R1.20 per kilometer. GTFOH

MbuyiseniNdlozi Oooh my...I have always suspected that every day when I pass under that bright..some parts are structurally time worn & weakened.

MbuyiseniNdlozi Let's not link M1 with M2. HermanMashaba helped fix M2.

MbuyiseniNdlozi How did HermanMashaba miss this one coz he just recently upgraded the M2 bridge

That is only the beginning. They all will without maintenance.

The one that was recently , maintained for the whole year .. and reopened? Or kanjani MbalulaFikile please update if it is Hhishi Hhishi there or Hikki Hikki not daar?

any fatalities?

Poor maintenance by the quotas from JRA. MyJRA

I hope no injuries
