“That said,” the FAA added. “A pilot has a lot of discretion in how to respond to an emergency situation.”
“It means that if a pilot encounters an emergency in flight, the pilot has wide latitude on how to respond,” he said in an email. Zobayan, 49, was an experienced pilot with 8,200 hours of flying time, federal investigators have said.
Duh! None should fly when visability is bad!
They better start writing checks fast
Again rules and regulations being ignored so much corruption exists.
Well that helicopter company is out of business
Why is it always AFTER the fact?
LeslieMarshall No shit. Really? Shouldnt fly when visibility is bad?!? That is obvious, to anyone with a brain. What we dont know, is how much money or influence Kobe put on pilot to fly everyone to their death. That is the big question.
And now that we're heading backward into the corporate self-regulation world of the TrumpEra ... Trump bullied you all down with his relentless fakenews campaign and you (nbcnews) like the other in the big 3 left it up to late night comedians to take up ALL the slack. Sad.
Sad news 🙏🙏
The pilot decided to risk it all, by flying blind...
I see they've found their scapegoat.
He wasn’t flying IFR, so...
Knowing the bulk of your audience is why you push these needless stories. Liberals always have to place blame.
Lot of lawsuits against that company. That company is going out of business because of all the money they have to pay those families who lost their love ones them
Companies don't get licensed to fly choppers by cockpit instruments. Pilots get licensed to fly choppers by cockpit instruments and this pilot had his IFR rating. That is an endorsement on his license allowing him to fly an aircraft by instruments.
OMG
Lock Them Up
Helicopters need to be banned as a form of transportation
Looks like I’ll have to start taking the boat over to Catalina, this company is finished! Pilot error right? 💜💛
Companies aren’t licensed to fly IFR. Pilots are. Douches.
Give it a rest let all rest in peace

Unreal, 9 people died for no reason at all.
Uh-oh!
Jeez, that’s gonna be a legal nightmare for that company.
But since the pilot was licensed, and the chopper was licensed, this is a paperwork issue only.
This is a non-story since the copter WASN'T flying by instruments. It was flying VFR.
Let the lawsuits begin ...
Gee.. what a mess.
🦠🔥🙃

A state can overrule the FAA now? Individual pilots are licensed for ratings, not a business.
Idiocy. Enjoy the lawsuit! Judge shouldn't allow them to file bankruptcy, either.
I flew for thirty years as a Flight Attendant with a major Airline, and flew small aircraft on my time off. 🚩NEVER ASSUME the small company you hired has the licences and is certified for all your needs in all weather. Check everything + everyone.
Irresponsible
That's how jfk Jr died. No instrument training. Sad
Seeing as the police grounded their choppers bc of the weather makes you wonder...and now this. They shouldn’t have been flying in that fog period.
I guess you have to tell this story, but I can’t imagine how painful it is for families.
Wow This is a major flaw across the board given the type of day they were travelling
Sounds like the American way, right up there with shooting kids....stupid people making stupid choices
Pilot was too afraid to speak up and say the flight couldn’t be performed and look what happened, innocent lives lost. Even worse that Kobe Bryant never pressured the pilots to fly. Pure pilot error!!!
Wait! What? I thought Koby owned the chopper.
Just remember anybody seeing my insignificant post, the only thing financed media brings to the general masses is anger/rage/ division, blame, diversion, political sway, social commentary, mirrored victimization, and, on top of all that just more fucking bullshit friends. FQITALL
Same thing that killed Buddy Holly. A dumb pilot that wasn’t qualified.
There always is a question, is it what meant to be... or someone could prevent that deaths
Essential information. Makes pilot error a more highly probable cause.
Disgusting incompetence.
Here comes the press milking their deaths from the teets of death itself.
So there’s a license to fly in bad weather?
That's why I said something smells sound fishy thank you
They killed kobe damn it cali.
How and where is the California regulators and go does that happen
Fact ,but it's too late😤
And nobody F check that before
I hope they sue.
Fak
This pilot’s mistake killed all those human beings. A regrettable split second irresponsible decision, that changed the lives of the surviving families forever. Why not wait and do the right thing? Not even the police was flying that day. Say take a limousine instead. 😢😢😢😢😢
Who cleared it then?
Rage. Just rage.
well there's a lawsuit just waiting to be filed.
that is corruption
To late....
The pilot was not only IFR (IFR flight depends upon flying by reference to instruments) trained and licensed, but also an instructor for helo IFR. This crash was mechanical failure.
This is so tragic and so sad... All the pilot had to say is Kobe we cannot fly this morning and we all wouldn’t be heartbroken
Isn’t that based on the pilots certifications?
So why did they give special clearance to fly if the weather was so bad. Regulations needed... Lives were at risks causing death
Kobe Bryant's pilot got his license out of a gumball machine.....
Extremely sad 😢
damn. been wondering about this.
That's why pilot was going around bad vis.
Sh oh! 💰
I'm sure Kobe would not have gotten onboard had he known all these facts trickling in.
