Five tigers, three lions, and two pet cats have tested positive for the new coronavirus in New York.
Also on Wednesday, the CDC and the USDA announced in a joint statement that two cats tested positive for COVID-19. They are believed to be the first pets in the US to test positive for the disease. from earlier this month suggests that cats may be more susceptible to infection from the new coronavirus and may be able to spread it to other cats, though there's little evidence to suggest the virus can spread to pet owners.
"The virus may have been transmitted to this cat by mildly ill or asymptomatic household members or through contact with an infected person outside its home," the statement said. "All eight cats continue to do well," the zoo said in its statement. "They are behaving normally, eating well, and their coughing is greatly reduced."

Recent news update. Any lions or tigers caught flaunting quarantine laws in the wild are to be fined $1,000 and face potential jail sentences of up to 100 years. All cats to be euthanized as government precautions.

So far various cats can get covid-19, but not dogs or other animals. It would be helpful to know what that means for the rest of us. Was it given to cats in an experiment or did they catch it from people? Can cats give it to people, or other animals? Can cats die from it too?
