Trump and his onetime acolyte, Georgia governor Brian Kemp. On Wednesday, the president rebuked Kemp for getting too far out in front of his campaign to reopen the economy with a statewide order earlier this week — a move that had alarmed public-health experts everywhere.
As recently as Tuesday, when asked about Kemp’s plan, Trump called him “a capable man who knows what he’s doing.” So it may have come as an ugly surprise to the governor and his people when Trump very publicly called him out for jumping the gun. Apparently task force coordinator Deborah Birx was deputized to talk Trump into shivving Kemp, and succeeded.You could argue it was all a matter of karma, though, since Kemp blind-sided local elected officials in Georgia with his reopening order.
