Tourism and Transport Forum CEO Margy Osmond says the government’s roadmap to reopening is a “great start, but obviously what we now need is dates and we need some clarity and certainty around that”.

The tourism industry is estimated to have been one of the hardest hit by the economic fallout of the coronavirus crisis. Ms Osmond told Sky News "before we get too optimistic,” tourism operators would have to wait for the premiers’ announcements on the states’ and territories’ independent timelines. “As a whole the industry is now pretty focused on what recovery looks like and that bright light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.

“Aviation will be critical to the rebirth of the domestic tourism economy in the first instance and hopefully the rebirth of business travel here in Australia too. “I do think the other part of this is confidence, it’s all very well to turn the tap back on but Australians have to feel confident about travelling, that it will be safe and – if in fact they have got leave because many people will have used up their paid leave as part of this process.

It appears that Queensland isn’t even looking at opening the border before July and if nsw or Victoria have the numbers like now it won’t be happening. Talked all week about flying to NZ and can’t drive from tweed heads to Coolangatta

That's a nice looking rock. We should get tourists to pay to climb it. Must be a great view from the top. What an adventure. 👍

It's Not up to the Federal Government. They can give guidelines but it is Up to the State's for Certainly and Clarity. ScottyFomMarketing just clouds the water.

Lifting KJ support early for those who supply tourism and those who supply services that support it is a big mistake, borders will remain closed, travellers restricted for a long time to come and the industry needs to pivot to a much smaller different customer base, new products
