"Sounds hectic right? But it doesn't stop there because by 5.30pm, they get ready again to unload fresh produce sent by some vendors that arrive at the market for the next day's operations. From her experience, Lau said locals tend not to last more than a week and are reluctant to do any of the heavy lifting or cleaning; basically the"tough jobs.""We pay both equally based on the amount of work they do.

More stalls are managed by migrants, so much so that the Pudu wet market's identity today is synonymous with migrant workers; it isn't the Pudu wet market if there are no migrant workers, Lau said. "I know of migrants whose entire family work for different stalls in the market. That's how it works here," Lau said referring to her Bangladeshi worker whom she has known since he was a 10-year-old boy, and is today able to converse in simple Hokkien with customers.A general view of the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market as traders resume business after the enhanced movement control order on the area was lifted on May 13, 2020.

The market trader who requested anonymity said although she has one staff stationed at the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market, it was not possible for him to handle the heavy load all by himself. She recalled a major raid which happened last year, resulting in several market traders fined for hiring refugees."We always had the impression that refugees can take up odd jobs, but we were told otherwise," she said, indicating that until today, she is traumatised by the experience of being interrogated by the authorities.

"Due to migrants being barred from the market, gradually fewer stalls could continue operations, and fewer people came to market.Eventually he said, the management and authorities arrived at a compromise, where each stall must have a Malaysian present to monitor operations. "The wholesale market has been entirely overtaken by foreigners. Not only the workforce but even the businesses, according to reports I received.at the Sentul Perdana Community Centre during his recent visit to the temporary shelter for the homeless.

He further explained that for migrants with work permits, that is different, but now the issue is with undocumented migrants. Annuar added that if need be, the Kuala Lumpur mayor has agreed to facilitate by providing transit homes for those coming to work from outstation and in need of accommodation while they settle into the job.Wholesale market malfunction

"So I'm actually short of eight workers instead of six, because it takes two local workers to complete one migrant worker's job load," said Chong.

Heck...should be done long2 time ago...

If the traders can't handle it, let those who can take over the trading stations. There are thousands who want the stations but cannot get them because of ethnicity. Shape up or ship out. No foreigners.

Then give up the business to those locals who wants it.. live and let live

KL market traders must contact AnnuarMusa so arrangements can be made for rural poor to travel, urban homeless to relocate and advertisement made to inform our jobless to run for this opportunity to work & earn, work & learn, work for an enterprising opportunity back in hometown

If listen to gov. How to do business die very fast

Based on this pics, it's about time to implement Industry 4.0 where conveyor belts, IT and modern wet market shall be implemented. Humans shall do more value added acts.

Mrk membayar sgt murah kpd pekerja asing + masa kerja lama.Jd apabila ini brlaku mrk kena byr pekerja tmptn dgn gaji yg mahal. Ini lbih kpd bgaimana pihak kerajaan mnyelesaikan win2 solution.Jgn akhirnya krjaan akur dgn penjual& akhirnya isu pendtg jdi polemik bila tiba PRU shj.

Lama2 oklah tu.banyak alasan

Stop being complacent if they want this market for their own. If they can't handle give to other willing Malaysians.

Lets be honest. Malaysia can’t afford to hire locals for the market work with higher pay. The recent hike in price for festive has already made majority on their feet. What if the price hike becomes permanent?

Lazy !
