Many years ago, I read Billy Bremner’s autobiography. Bremner, an iconic figure at Leeds United, was club captain when the team was dominant in the English First Division in the 1970s.
In the book, Bremner recalled an invitation game which Leeds played against the more elegant and skilful Italian giants, Juventus. The fixture was a celebratory meeting between the two clubs to commemorate some or other milestone in the Italian side’s history. Contrary to the run of play, Leeds beat Juventus by a single goal.
