The makers of Mrs. Butterworth's, Uncle Ben's and Cream of Wheat have rushed to rethink problematic mascots as anti-racism protests sweep the country

On Wednesday, the bell finally tolled for Aunt Jemima, the mascot and name of the 130-year-old pancake brand, as the company announced it would re-brand, minus the racist stereotypes. By later that night, the makers of other iconic food mascots with problematic profiles announced they are considering overhauls, too.

[Ben & Jerry’s pointed call to ‘dismantle white supremacy’ stands out among tepid corporate America statements] “We stand in solidarity with our Black and Brown communities, and we can see that our packaging may be interpreted in a way that is wholly inconsistent with our values,” the company said in a news release.
