What makes them particularly unique is that Polimoda has also brought on prominent industry mentors who will lend their expertise and real-world experience to students: Caroline Issa, Chief Executive and Fashion Director of Tank, will mentor those taking 28-hour courses.
"All Polimoda courses have a collaboration or a mentor and since we want online courses to have the same characteristics as the in-person courses, we asked Laudomia and Caroline to mentor," explains Venturi of that decision. "I think these two women have a lot to say in terms of technical skills but also in terms of human interaction. When you attend an online course, you are in front of a computer alone and knowing that you have a mentor makes this experience warmer.
It's becoming clear that the ongoing pandemic is pushing the fashion industry, and fashion education in particular, towards an increasingly digital future. And while there will no doubt be a return to in-person learning — especially for such a hands-on profession as fashion — one cannot discount the benefits of effective virtual options.
