Uber drivers say the company is taking hundreds of dollars from their paychecks to pay airport-issued tickets the drivers didn't know existed

An Uber driver picks up passengers a day after Uber Technologies, Inc. cut 3,000 jobs as their business has been gutted by the coronavirus at Los Angeles International Airport on May 19, 2020.Airports have been issuing tickets to Uber drivers without their knowledge, and the rideshare giant is paying for the citation fees from the drivers' paychecks, per a new Motherboard report.

Contracts between Uber and airport entities allow for the company to compensate airports by deducting wages from drivers, according to the report.

One driver told Motherboard that he's had four $100 tickets taken out of his paychecks, all of which he never had a chance to appeal. "Sometimes this means I've had negative earnings and no money for gas," the driver told the outlet. "I've called Uber and they said 'we can't do anything.'" In an email sent from Uber to one of the drivers and viewed by the outlet, the company said it realizes the paycheck deduction"likely will come as a surprise, but per your agreement with Uber, we must collect the violation amount from you. The violation amount will be deducted from your next pay statement."

Drivers take off trade dress because if they get into an accident, the police report won’t say Uber vehicle. Most are committing insurance fraud!

Airports generally have contracts with taxi services. Uber rolls up with no contract so they get charged fees. If uber didn’t tell their drivers, that’s just unacceptable.
