Opinion | It's time to start handing out fines to people who refuse to wear masks. By KathiValeii

have worked to shift the culture of seat belt wearing. Enforcing mask mandates can work in the same way. If people won't mask up out of common courtesy and respect for the health and safety of those around them, then maybe they will feel compelled to do so for the sake of their own pocketbook.

But to comply with ADA guidelines, businesses would merely have to make reasonable accommodations. Curbside pickup and delivery, which most businesses that are still surviving are already doing, are reasonable accommodations in a scenario like this one., which prevent health plans and health care providers from sharing a patient's medical records or private medical information, don't apply to this situation.

But these encounters don't always end with verbal abuse. Throughout the state, interactions like these have escalated toagainst store patrons and staff who make requests for others to use a face covering. These workers have had to endure an uptick in this kind of violence from a swath of people who refuse to wear a mask on a philosophical hill they're willing to let everyone die on.

Both of my kids deserve better. We all do. A driver's ed instructor or retail shopper shouldn't get to choose whether to wear a mask based on what makes them feel more comfortable or based on their own, political ideology.

KathiValeii The Constitution says rights come with responsibilities. It shouldn't be politicized. Everyone has a responsibility to others. Why has this been forgotten?

KathiValeii Encourage, not mandate.

KathiValeii I don't now if they work or not but CA has had mandatory Masks since June 19th. CA is leading the country in new cases right now.

KathiValeii I am not wearing a mask outside... Unless I am suddenly swarmed by a pack of 80 year old women who are literally crawling all over me. And if I see you driving with a mask or walking with a mask with no one around, you are ignorant to the purpose of a mask. (Sorry)

KathiValeii Fines?! Nah, let's shot them!

KathiValeii I completely agree. However, I do have to think about the fact that a) getting masks is an expense and as unemployment has skyrocketed, I’m not sure that expense should be on the citizen. B) any law/fine will undoubtedly affect communities of color and low income more

KathiValeii Why do you keep calling them conservatives, when a more appropriate name would be idiots. Many conservatives deal with facts and reality, but not these people.
