How will companies and employees navigate the new post-pandemic workplace culture?

The post-pandemic workplace will be a blend of virtual and on-premise work. Virtual will likely end up being two-thirds of interaction given macro-trends accelerated by pandemic. A culture built around taking this into account is one that embraces technology including its limitations and one that treats in-person connections as more intentional and precious.

Connections will need to be nurtured and part of this nurturing will mean a higher level of empathy. For example, we’ll need to empathize more with many of our colleagues who have family or other needs that don’t always conform well to work schedules. The interruptions of personal life – family, children, pets, package deliveries, etc. – will inevitably collide with our professional lives. We’ll all have to learn to roll with it even more than we have so far.

Teams came up with actionable ideas that we’re now making a reality. The best part? Many of those team members had never met before so the relationship started virtually. And now, they will continue virtually as well. That’s the beginning of a new culture and we’re working hard to nurture and encourage this as much as possible.I think the biggest advice I can give is this: resist the urge to manage everything. Hand more responsibilities over to individuals.
