These app notifications are the start of modern love — or at least the hopes of it — during a pandemic. With millions of Americans socially isolating and distancing, with bars and nightclubs closed, and dining options limited, online dating has become more popular.

From March to May, daily conversations increased 20% around the world on Tinder, one of the most popular dating apps. In the US, conversations peaked on April 5, with Americans sending 56% more messages vs. than before the pandemic, the company told Business Insider. And on Bumble, another popular online dating app, messages increased by over 20% in major cities across the US in March,
