Boris Johnson is facing opposition from two typically co-operative wings of his party over his handling of COVID-19 and Brexit.

One well-placed senior Tory in the House of Lords said the fear is the prime minister and his closest aides are being driven by ideological impulse and not trade strategy in pushing on with the UK Internal Market Bill.

Mr Johnson now faces frustration from at least two sides of his own party and a planned meeting on Friday evening is unlikely to do much to dampen it.

Is the Internal Market Bill sort of like self defence? We only plan to use it if we are attached? As a remainer i’m feeling wrong about the EU behaviour. It’s triggering bullying feeling I haven’t felt since I came out black at school. I hope it gets resolved without war.
