When you think of the cruise industry, an electrician probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind. But for people like Alfredo Quaglia, his business has relied on them as part of their livelihood for decades.

For a business specialising in electrical motor repairs, Christmas decorations for a cruise ship might seem like an unusual client order.

"All these guys that you see working here, they all started from the very beginning as an apprentice," he said.Alfred Quaglia has had to cut the hours of his workers during the pandemic.Cruise ships were the sites of some of the most high-profile outbreaks of COVID-19 in the early stages of the pandemic.

She has since settled back into life in Western Australia, returning to her childhood passion of rhythmic gymnastics as a choreographer."At the moment, we're definitely at a crossroads career-wise and life-wise," she said. Cruising has already started getting underway again in Europe and the industry is hoping operations can gradually resume in Australia soon.

CLIA says it is in talks with the Government about re-starting domestic cruises, especially as state borders re-open, before the ban is due to lift. "At this time, there has been no date set for the resumption of either larger domestic or international cruises."
