In response to the pandemic, Cantor says she stepped into a human resources-type role at companies with less focus on recruiting. She even helps founders find new HR products and services for creating inclusive workplaces, as well as helping people avoid burnout, supporting working parents, and rethinking benefits and perks in 2020's remote-first world.

"What's become more critical this year, though, is the ability to operationalize empathy for both the customer and employee," Vertesi said, adding that companies that design strategies with empathy have a competitive advantage because they are more aligned with their users.
