PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Tourism Council (MTC) urges the government to speed up the assistance for the tourism industry to keep it competitive.

MTC president Uzaidi Udanis said while waiting for the allocation through Budget 2021, assistance through the recovery plan should be channelled immediately.

The recovery plan, which was introduced by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry in July, consists of accommodation vouchers, family vacation discounts,"Meet in Malaysia" campaigns and frontline staff package discounts, among others.MTC also said the recovery plan would promote domestic expenditure and contribute to the local economic growth.

“Local tourism agencies are also encouraged to promote and market domestic tourism packages creatively to attract more people to realise the cuti-cuti Malaysia campaign, ” it said. “At the same time, MTC hopes that there will be an announcement on the tourism activity mechanism or guidelines during the Covid-19 pandemic, ” it added.
