A shutdown, even for two weeks, would lead to a negative chain reaction, says the head of an association for small enterprises. FMTNews MCO

The national MCO in March last year cost the economy RM42 billion a day, says a spokesman for employers.

He told FMT that appropriate measures were needed to control the virus and reduce its spread. The MCO in March last year had been very effective in doing so, but the country and especially the private sector could not afford to go through “the crunching effects of another MCO”. An economist, Carmelo Ferlito, of the Center for Market Education, said reverting to the highly-restrictive MCO would ravage jobs, with its effect on the economy disproportionately larger than its impact on the virus.

Since Christmas day, Malaysia’s national record for daily Covid-19 cases has been broken four times, reaching 2,335 on Boxing Day, 2,525 on the final day of 2020, 2,593 on Jan 6 and 3,027 yesterday.

Cool, so the situation now is positively great for everyone.

it is catch 22. which is more important ppl or ecomnomy? economy cannot be run by sick people. you need healthy people to run the business.

Choose LIFE or MONEY...

Another round of MCO may greatly impact businesses but if the current Covid-19 situation is not being controlled, the aftermath impact could devastate Malaysia for generations to come. Every day of delay to implement MCO may result in extra months or years to recover.

Be careful what you all wish for, it might just come true.

2 weeks people will not die But with the spike, people are dying on daily basis.

No 'delicate' balance, no one has been trying to balance this out for the past 3 months. This spike is due to Rakyat and politician not follow SOP. Its our fault and we need to pay the price. Dont forget what happened in Sabah.

Cannot b no restrictions with these spikes. Minimum needs interstate travel from klang valley stopped. Then targeted MCO is certain areas.

Actually we should procure the vaccines asap. That's the best way to cut the chain of infection, no? But things are moving like penyu.

No point MCO if once open ppl not follow sop

Look at the shutdowns in Europe, where are they now!?

Fikiran kapitalis totok.
