New Walgreens chief Roz Brewer broke barriers to become the only Black female Fortune 500 CEO. Now she faces her toughest challenge yet: winning the vaccine-distribution race.

Shattering barriers isn't new for Brewer. When she was CEO of Sam's Club, she was the first woman and first Black woman to lead a division of Walmart.in 2015, Brewer made remarks about striving for diversity and inclusion at Sam's Club. Those efforts, she said,"start with top leadership." Then she mentioned meeting with a Sam's Club supplier whose representatives were all male and Caucasian."My executive team is very diverse and I make that a priority.

Diversity was integral to Brewer's leadership strategy at Starbucks. After two Black men were arrested in a Starbucks in Philadelphia, she helpedBarrier-breaking, and inspiring colleagues When she starts on March 15 as CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, she will again make Wall Street history. Brewer will replace Stefano Pessina, that he would step down as the CEO of Walgreens when the company found a new chief executive.

When it comes to leadership at the top, women have made slow progress in getting a seat at the table.
