The Biden administration has reached a $230 million deal with Australian company Ellume to produce at-home, over-the-counter Covid-19 tests

Officials at the Departments of Defense and Health and Human Services have reached a $230 million deal with Australian company Ellume to produce at-home, over-the-counter Covid-19 tests, President Biden’s coronavirus response team announced Monday.. So far, the FDA has cleared three Covid-19 tests that can be processed entirely at home, including Ellume’s. None are widely available at this point.

The company is expected to produce 19 million tests a month by the end of the year, Andy Slavitt, senior adviser to the White House Covid-19 response team, said Monday. Based on the agreement, 8.5 million tests will be guaranteed to the U.S. government. Ellume’s test is expected to cost around $30 and requires a smartphone, the company has said. The test is authorized to be used by people both with and without symptoms. It can also be used on children as young as 2 years old.

Mr. Slavitt said the government’s announcement Monday was a step toward mass production and lowering prices. “There’s a chicken and egg problem, which we have taken a step to solve today,” he said during a briefing.

Why invest in an Australian company when Sorrento has COVI-STIX right here in San Diego California? Give them the EUA that they are waiting for. FDA MadeInUSA

Thought we had a vaccine?

Why in the world did he go outside of the USA for this? There are companies that make this too in the USA! UGHH!

Expensive one time test, approximately $30. So for a couple on a fixed income, $60 could buy 1/3 week of groceries, maybe 15 day supply of least expensive medications...but a $2000 one time stimulus check is considered outrageous.

Getting virus under control is the priority and this will help with that. In the future though, projects with the backing of the administration really should fall under the BuyAmerican initiative. COVID19 CovidVaccine
