Delays in paychecks and other mail deliveries by USPS gained attention this summer as a record number of voters mailed in ballots to elect a new president.
House Oversight and Government Reform chairwoman Carolyn Maloney will make the case for action on the finances of the USPS in the face of shrinking volumes of first-class mail, increased costs of employee compensation and benefit, and higher unfunded liabilities and debt. USPS reported net losses of $86.7 billion from 2007 through 2020. One reason is 2006 legislation that it pre-fund more than $120 billion in retiree health care and pension liabilities, a reqiurement labor unions have called an unfair burden not shared by other businesses.
It would also require postal employees to enroll in government-retiree health plan Medicare, for a saving of roughly $10 billion over ten years.
Well maybe you want to wind back the GOP agenda to bankrupt and privatise the organisation ....
Give them the money to cover the ridiculous & completely unfair mandate to pay their employee pension upfront! It’s obscene. Then give them extra to modernize bc USPS is one of the greatest & most important government services we have, Amazon would be nothing w/out their routes
Neoliberal economic policies decrease monitoring & regulation of corporate activity, and sell off such gov assets & services as schools, transportation, and utilities. Both capitalist political factions (Reps and Dems) promote such policies. USPS' demise is deliberate.
Republicans 2021 start to dismantling the USPS and suppressing votes for future elections. PAY ATTENTION.
Don't forget to review when Republicans made the USPS fully fund pensions for like 20 years in the future thus causing them to lose money Then Republicans attacked the USPS for losing money.
