Once I'd found 10 or so pieces that I wanted, I started looking around for pop-up markets in LA. I applied for all the necessary licenses including a reseller's permit, and then I built my website and Shopify site. For two months I worked nonstop, and then launched Elevate Jane in July 2017.In 2017, I was taking a break from a hotel company that I was working for in New York and figuring out what I wanted to do next, including moving back to LA.

From the beginning I always wanted Elevate Jane to be an online store, and COVID-19 really pushed us to focus on that.

as a man of milk, it was 100% easier to break into this online industry.. (where no one actually saw my skin color)

It has nothing to with her skin colour &/or the fact she's a woman. She is clearly an educated individual utilising her skills in marketing + e-commerce to start an online business based on a niche market of products that's become more popular since the legalisation of Marijuana.

Well, great for her! But couldn’t she just stop saying ‘as a woman of color’?

baffled by the emphasis on “woman of color” in this article. hundreds of thousands of black folk were incarcerated due to marijuana criminalization. THOSE are the voices of color we must life and amplify in this industry. asian americans make on average $47k than black americans.

Cannabis industry colonizer. She's Asian, so she's at the back of the bus in the people of color coalition and should turn over her business to a more deserving ADOS person.
