PHILADELPHIA—According to a report released Wednesday from Wharton Business School, a growing number of companies are considering a hybrid model in which half of their workforce returns to the office while the other half is laid off. “The past year has really opened our eyes to far more flexible office models, wherein, say, part of our employees come back into the office and the other half stay home forever,” said SalesForce CEO Marc Benioff, one of hundreds of executives interviewed for the report who suggested they might also be open to a setup where workers commute four days of the week and then are told to clean out their desk on Friday. “What’s great is that this gives peace of mind for our workers to know that they’re still employed—at least for now. Meanwhile, it provides laid-off employees the freedom to look for a new job anywhere else they want. It’s an exciting new frontier for us, and, frankly, I only wish we’d thought of it sooner.” The report concluded that the new standard of office work might even give terminated workers the option to leave the city and move in with their parents while they sort some things out.\n

Half of individual employees receiving dangerous levels of UV rays.

Too real

grimalkina Too real to be funny

After eight years, I got two weeks pay and this booklet. Oh and a 'Thank you for your time.' I'll be just fine.

Not sure if onion

The American way.

And if I'm one of the ones who keeps their job, I'm going to slack off twice as hard.

The office goof offs are freaking out.

Can you stick to fake news?

omfg

How thoughtful 🤔👉🏿 “What’s great is that this gives peace of mind for our workers to know that they’re still employed—at least for now.'

that seems to be the tactic Basecamp is using, except for laying off people they just have really shitty executives lol

Davidlaz Don’t give corporate America any ideas!

Not funny. I was one of the half that got laid off.

Looking for the satire. All I see are facts on this post.

There's a bit more to this story. Can you also cover the part where the remaining half of the employees will be doing the full workload of their pre-layoff team, but for no additional pay?

Brutal

cbeef12 I actually laughed when I finished reading that

ALL you people must have degrees from Subtle Wonderful Sarcasm University... with initial stints at The New Yorker.

This is the way.

👀

Half return, half laid off, half a billion dollars to board members

This is 100% not a satirical post unfortunately

Confirming the common business model misconception that walls are more important than people

With triple the productivity expected because that makes sense to the project managers. Who have negotiated 3 new deadlines. To be completed at the same time as the original. True story.

I'm considering a Hybrid Model of eating at home and driving my car, like all my other cars, to 350K mileage rather than buy a new one and drive it only to 65K and then buying a new one...

Better bang for the buck.

Employment for introverts will eventually be outlawed in favor of extroverts feeding each other positive, ego-building attention and business buzzwords for the seven hours a day it takes them to plan lunch.

Companies using 3D printing to build houses at 'half the time for half the price'A 3D printer can build the walls of a house in as little as two days versus weeks or months with traditional construction materials. My concern is the mining for the cement. If you’ve ever seen the mining operations you know how air polluting they are and how detrimental it is to the environment. Tell Joe we'll need less cheap labor as 3D printing and advanced robotics take over more jobs.
