Analysis: The NSW government’s plan to spend almost half a billion dollars in a bid to ensure that by 2030 half of all new cars sold in the state are electric has won an odd but loud chorus of praise

that he was embarrassed to ask his German bosses for access to new electric models due to the lack of government support for the sector, is thrilled.

The common theme you pick up when you talk to these groups about their support for the plan is its comprehensive nature. Bartsch says that by scrapping stamp duty on electric cars and putting money into incentives for purchase and charging infrastructure, the government is tackling the two key barriers to buying the new technology: cost and range anxiety.

The commitment to expanding the state government’s own electric fleet not only further signals support for the technology, but will help build a second-hand market.

Bet not praise from Nationals

Because anything is better than nothing . $500M isn’t much in the scheme of things . Tax polluters could fund infrastructure.

It looks like GladysB’s lot want to take our utes SenatorCash Where’s your outrage? auspol

Where will the power come from for: (a) EVs (b) 100s of apartment towers and associated metros (c) Parramatta CBD (d) Western Sydney Airport (e) Aerotropolis (f) Air-conditioning subdivisions in Sydney's hot West (g) hydrogen production Dom_Perrottet Matt_KeanMP AngusTaylorMP

Great initiative 👏 Just for the record, I want you Nick to keep a hold of this vehicle order that was placed yesterday by a client, a day before this initiative was announced To keep them honest it’d be good to compare Tesla’s vehicle prices before/after the rebates kick in

Well they better start building plenty of power stations again. Where do they think the massive increase of demand for electricity is going to come from. EVs will only be a small player dues to limited distance and Australians like travelling and camping etc. A EV won't cut it.

True insanity with terrible environmental costs. Also: works only for inner city dwellers

Could it be Little Johnny?
