U.S. stocks on Friday booked a strong finish to an otherwise turbulent week that saw all three main equity index log weekly losses. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.65% rose by about 225 points, or 0.7%, ending higher for the first time in four sessions, with a weekly decline of 1.1%. The S&P 500 index SPX, +0.81% closed 0.8% higher to around 4,442, with a weekly slide of 0.6%. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, +1.19% enjoyed the best session on Friday, rising 1.

One Federal Reserve policy maker said he may rethink his call for a tapering of bond purchases to start in October, if the variant slows economy. In an interview with Fox Business Network on Friday, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Robert Kaplan said the variant has caused him to have an open mind about the path of monetary policy.
