A former plan to put a 24-hour liquor store on the site angered some in the community.

Two Los Angeles companies have partnered to turn the former Miller’s Market site in Golden Hill into a $90 million apartment complex.

The site was purchased for $11.5 million in January, with plans for a five-story building with 191 apartments and 3,920-square-feet of office space. Previous plans for the market site, a 7,124-foot grocery store closed since 2019, included a 24-hour liquor store on the ground level. The plan caused a community outcry and a petition to stop it.which purchased the site along with Viewpoint Development, did not immediately respond to inquiries about what would go in the retail space.

“In recent years, many tech companies have moved to downtown San Diego, bringing with them thousands of well-paid employees in search of housing,” he wrote. “This Class A project with luxury amenities can help ease that burden.” Dekel said in its news release that construction will begin near the end of 2022 and take roughly 30 months to complete. The site’s address, at 2985 C St., is near several new multifamily projects, including the 36-unit Buzz apartment complex on B Street and the 15-unit Guild on 30th townhouse development.
