Global wheat prices peaked at record levels last week, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine impacting grain exports from the Black Sea for the foreseeable future. But what does this mean for Australian farmers?

Australian growers weigh up whether to lock in contracts for this year's crop at inflated pricesAn agri-commodity strategist says the Chicago May wheat futures price peaked at almost $US13 per bushelAlthough the Australian wheat price has not risen to the same extent, there has been a significant upswing with the crop selling for close to $400 a tonne.

"It's a moral conflict to a point. This is another person's misery, and it's a terrible thing in human terms," Mr Dart said. He said he was able to sell some of their feed quality wheat from last year's wet harvest at escalated prices.

. Hilarious. .

Take your profits, save them, use them when the weather turns bad in the future. Not the current way where the farmers won't get off the teat of the taxpayer whenever there is drought. Start running farms responsibly and stop being blushers on taxpayers

This is just a fluff piece. Watch them all rise above their principles and take the highest price available.

They should take the extra profit from the price rise. Just don't ask for a taxpayer bail out at the next drought or if the price tanks in the future.

Do we really have “Australian farmers” or are they temporary workers for multi-national food conglomerates?

Well, OPEC isn't being too moral about accepting higher prices for oil. I know it's a hell of a call to make but agriculture has a lot of uncertainty about it. Being moral hasn't entered into big businesses thinking in any way. Go with the flow.

Farmers deserve a reasonable return and income for their hard work and investment. Does not happen as often as it should.

No such thing as moral Australia, few moral Australians too
