Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mthethwa has praised South African Grammy award winner, DJ Black Coffee and dubbed him ‘son of the soil’.

Black Coffee whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo landed at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday evening after he took home the award for the best dance/electronic album at the 64th Grammy awards on Monday morning.

Mthethwa says Black Coffee has demonstrated that he has the power to bring his music not only to the people of South Africa but also to the rest of the world. “Following in the footsteps of Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela, DJ Black Coffee has reached the top of his game and will continue to shine. You are an icon and your love for music and youth should continue for years to come.’
